The case had a national impact and even in neighboring France, but on site, we live it pretty well. Faced with an upsurge in incivility attributed to around twenty people, the municipality of Porrentruy and the district intercommunal union prohibited this Wednesday from access to the outdoor swimming pool to the Swiss non-residents. Only people of Swiss nationality, holders of an establishment permit or a valid Swiss work permit can still swim there until August 31.
The decision, although controversial, seems widely supported in the region, reports “the Jura daily” of the day. Mayor Philippe Eggertswyler fully assumes the measure, despite the accusations of discrimination: “This is a question of proportionality,” he insists. Several local elected officials welcome a “courageous” choice, believing that Swiss taxpayers must have priority. A regular French user says he is disappointed, but understands the logic behind the decision, recognizing that “the Swiss manage to establish what we, in France, we cannot do when there is too much circus”. Only the local socialist section deplores a collective response to individual behavior and calls for a more lasting solution.
