Burglary of armory in Yverdon: three suspects arrested

Three French people aged 17 to 19 tried to rob a armory early Sunday in Yverdon-les-Bains (VD). They were arrested at the end of a chase during which a police officer fired gunshots towards their vehicle. No one was injured.

(Keystone-ATS) The police were alerted Sunday shortly after 04:30. Upon arrival on site, the patrols found that a pick-up had struck the glass of armory and that two of the suspects were trying to enter the store, the cantonal police said on Monday. They then fled aboard their vehicle.

The fugitives “circulated in town at high speed, taking considerable risks,” wrote the police. Arrived at the end of a street with a retractable terminal, they turned back and found themselves in front of a car placed across the road.

The driver bypassed the police vehicle and came close to an agent before immobilizing briefly. The policeman then pulled towards the tires of the utility vehicle. The pick-up was however able to resume its race a few meters before hitting another police vehicle.

The three suspects were then arrested without opposing resistance. These are three French nationals of 19, 18 and 17 years old. They were reported to the public prosecutor and to the miners’ court. A criminal instruction has been opened to establish the precise circumstances of the facts. No one was injured during this event and no weapon was swept away, the police said.

Flights to armorys have recently multiplied in Switzerland, including one in particular in Evionnaz (VS) almost a month ago.
