Despite the uncertain temperature, Canada’s Day started as expected, in Sept-Îles.
From 1 p.m., the festivities were officially launched with the flag raising ceremony. The cadet body of the Canadian Royal Navy and veterans have helped make this moment solemn. The organizer Hubert Besnier set the tone with his patriotic speech and the national anthem was sung by Guy Porlier, vocal director and founder among the northern choristers.
The afternoon will be for a while for the whole family with a disco in the bubbles led by Cathy Porlier and virtual helmets will be provided by Omnizoé Inc. until 4 p.m.
From 7 p.m., it will be Ulric Riverin’s turn to continue the festivities during his show under the yellow tent. He will sing in French, English and innu for the event. Subsequently, the group composed of Marc Vigneault and Nancy Mallais will take the stage to end the evening.
To finish this national holiday in style, the fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. and will last longer than in previous years. Last year, they lasted 12 minutes and this year they will spend 15 minutes.
