The total value of building permits experienced 12 % in May compared to the previous month in Canada, to set up at 13.1 billion, according to statistical Canada data published on Friday.
This increase is mainly due to the construction of the construction of institutional buildings in Ontario, which jumped by 1.3 billion, with the license issued for the construction of a new hospital in the Niagara region.
Nationally, the value of building permits experienced 1.2 billion growth in the non -residential sector, reaching 5.6 billion in May.
Quebec has also recorded the highest increase in the country (+59.1 million) for commercial building permits, which increased by 87.8 million in Canada.
Conversely, the province experienced the most important decline in building permits of industrial buildings (-50.8 million). The decrease was felt throughout the country with a decline of 117.2 million in May.
With regard to the residential sector, construction intentions increased by 169.8 million to reach 7.5 billion. The increase is essentially attributable to permits for multifamilial accommodation in British Columbia.
The value of the permits issued for the construction of multifamilial housing increased from 194.8 million to be 4.9 billion in Canada.
The one for unified accommodation, however, decreased by 25 million to 2.6 billion.
In constant dollars, the total value of building permits during the fifth month of the year increased by 11.8 % compared to the month of April.
Compared to May 2024, the total value of building permits increased by 5.1 %.
