China inflicts temporary customs tariffs on Canadian canola

China will collect temporary customs tariffs on imports from Canada from Canola products, an oilseed -related oilseeds, the Ministry of Commerce announced on Tuesday, after a preliminary investigation that there was a dumping.

In March, Beijing imposed a 100% surcharge on Canadian rapeseed oil, peas and cakes, used for animal feed. China said that this measure was an answer to Ottawa’s decision last year to impose 100% rights on Chinese electric vehicles, in response to similar American measures.

Canada is among the main world producers of canola, an oilseed cultivation used to produce cooking oil, animal food and biodiesel.

The majority of its canola exports go to only two customers: the United States and China-two countries with which Ottawa recently faced with customs duties.

Chinese authorities began to examine Canadian canola expeditions last September.

This survey concluded preliminary that Canadian imports had caused “significant damage” to national industry, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.

From Thursday, imports from Canadian canola will be subject to rights of 75.8%, to pay in the form of “deposit” while the measures are finalized, he added.

Also on Tuesday, the Beijing Ministry of Commerce announced an anti-dumping investigation into Canadon starch imports.

Another survey on halogenic butyle rubber imports-a material used for tire liners and pipes-has also concluded preliminary that imports from this product from Canada and Japan cause “significant damage” to national industry, according to the press release.

From Thursday, these imports will be subject to preliminary rights between 13.8% and 40.5%. An investigation into rubber material shipments from India was interrupted after having noted an “negligible,” import volume said the ministry.
