A sexually frustrated spouse who almost killed his wife by driving her with 2x4s received a sentence of six and a half years of penitentiary, the judge qualifying the crime “particularly brutal”, “selfish” and “sneaky”.

Pierre Berrard had attacked his spouse for the past 24 years on February 3, 2022.
Disstablished their life as a couple and wishing to go and live with his mistress, but not without getting his hands on the real estate heritage in the name of his wife, the man had violently defeated her with a wooden board. He also smashed her head on the ceramic floor, in addition to trying to break her neck.
The woman had managed to convince him to stop her carnage in a “negotiation process” by promising to give him their buildings and let him rest her life. But once in the ambulance, she had told the authorities everything. A surveillance camera of their residence had also captured the audio of the assault, in addition to showing the offender coming to replace the aircraft when he had in hand the end of 2×4 which had served to pour his rage.

“If hell exists, this is what I knew that day,” said the victim to the court during observations on the penalty to impose on Berrard, initially accused of attempted murder, but who finally pleaded guilty to a count of serious assault.
Relentlessness
On Monday, judge Magali Lepage acknowledged that the attack was particularly condemnable, stressing the importance of denouncing such acts.
“In this case, a man saw fit to seriously injure his spouse in recent decades, the mother of his children, by sexual frustration, by disappointment and selfishness,” deplored the magistrate by condemning Pierre Berrard to six and a half years of penitentiary.
The 57 -year -old man, a building inspector, had stupidly described his wife’s revelations on his lack of sexual desire as “the discovery of a hidden vice on a house”.
“We can only note how his reaction is disturbing, disproportionate and selfish,” concluded judge Lepage, denouncing “the relentlessness” of the violent spouse and the repetition of his blows at the head of the victim.

“The objective was to punish her to force her to accept their separation, to sell the house, to follow her plan,” said the judge in her decision.
The victim has kept many physical and psychological sequelae of the assault, but also lives with a constant fear that he could want to take revenge when he left prison. “The assault left her bruised at all levels,” said the magistrate.
Remorse that “sounds false”
As for the remorse mentioned by Berrard during observations on the sentence, the court insisted “not to be fooled” in the face of words “which sound false”.
The decision describes the discourse of the offender as “unleashing”, he who continues with a therapist in April 2024 to explain his act by his own suffering, accusing his victim of having “screwed up their lives”.
Since he has been held since the events occurring more than three years ago, he will remain in Pierre Berrard just under 18 months to serve over his sentence of six and a half years.
However, it will be subject to a probation order for the three years which will follow its outing of detention.
