9 stores had been taken over from the Casino group, 10 others are historic establishments of the brand.
The large distribution giant Auchan said this Wednesday, July 16, said that it has entered into exclusive negotiations with Lidl for the acquisition of 19 stores located everywhere in France.
Auchan said that he had “hired a strategic magazine for his store fleet, with the aim of strengthening its economic performance while ensuring the continuity of employment”.
The brand thus plans to sell 19 supermarkets to Lidl. Among these points of sale, 9 had been taken over to the Casino group in 2024, and 10 belong to its historic park.
Auchan specified that “each site has been the subject of an in -depth analysis aimed at assessing the investments necessary for its remodeling and its alignment with the new commercial project of Auchan, as well as its ability to regain a performance dynamic”.
According to the brand, “several scenarios have been studied: rental-management, franchise or sale. It is this last option which was deemed most relevant to guarantee the sustainability of the exploitation and preserve associated jobs, in a spirit of responsibility and continuity of activity”.
In total, Auchan will sell 33,760m² of sales area which will reach the 1,600 LIDL stores already installed in France.
The press release specified that “this recovery project is part of the development dynamic of the LIDL brand, which today has 46,000 employees in France”.
The transfer project in Lidl was presented to the representative Auchan staff bodies this Wednesday, July 16 and will be subject to the authorization of the competition authorities. The finalization of the operation could take place by the end of the last quarter of 2025.

They are absent from Auchan’s official communication because “discussions are still underway with Leclerc and Intermarché”. These stores are located in Aubagne (13), Saint Pierre des Corps (37) and Cournon (63).
