Consup against a train of via rail passengers: the Supreme Court of Canada refuses to hear on appeal Raed Jaser

Appeals are exhausted for one of the two men who planned to derail a Via Rail train in 2013, Raed Jaser, since the Supreme Court of Canada revealed on Thursday, its decision not to hear the accused on appeal.

The latter as well as his accomplice Chiheb Esseghaier were considered guilty in 2015 in Ontario of conspiracies in order to derail a passenger train on behalf of Al-Qaida.

The two terrorists were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole before 10 years.

In August 2019, Ontario’s highest court had canceled the convictions of the two accused and ordered a new trial, the judges retaining a “law error” during the selection of jurors.

The file went to the Supreme Court, which then declared in March 2021 that the trial was fair.

The judges had then unanimously restored the declarations of guilt pronounced against the two men, while allowing them to appeal before the Court of Appeal of Ontario, but for other reasons.

The Supreme Court of Canada did not explain the reasons for its refusal to hear the complainant on appeal.
