“History will judge our silence”.
Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gentlemen, Ministers,
There are times when history does not give the hesitation time. Gaza is living one of these moments. The incessant bombardments, organized famine, methodical destruction of hospitals, schools and vital infrastructure are not “collateral damage”: These are the elements of a genocidebroadcast live in the media.
While children die from thirst and families are decimated, Belgium remains frozen, waiting for “Europe to decide”. Meanwhile, other countries are already acting: arms embargo, economic sanctions, immediate recognition of the state of Palestine.
We can no longer hide behind “discussions” or cautious diplomatic calculations. The arguments put forward by certain parties to justify inaction not “offend” a foreign head of government, waiting for a hypothetical advance on the hostages have become hollow pretexts. Inaction is complicity.
We, signatories of this petition, ask:
- Immediate and official recognition of the state of Palestine.
- The suspension of all military cooperation with Israelincluding the export of weapons components.
- Importing products from illegal colonies.
- Diplomatic and economic sanctions Against Israeli political leaders involved in these crimes.
Prime Minister, Minister, Gentlemen Ministers: Each day of inaction is a day of shame for our country.
In a few years, it will not be enough to say “we did not know”. We know. We see. And we have the power to act.
Act now.
Not for us, not for your career, but for these human lives which, today, also depend on your political courage.
