A comparative study of credit cards used not the Swiss has just been published on Moneyland.ch.
FreepikOver 590 francs. This is what occasional users of a credit card could have saved from the most expensive to that including the lowest costs. Indeed, the online comparison service Moneyland.ch examined the costs and services of 131 credit cards used by the Swiss, thus highlighting important disparities.
This study revolves around several user profiles. To start, there are “occasional” users. They use their credit cards to make purchases up to 200 francs per month when they are in Switzerland and spend 1000 euros per year, when they are on vacation abroad. For them, the most attractive card is the credit card with Back of Sweet “Cashback” of Swisscard. With this card, money returns exceed the costs of 17.40 francs. In other words, “occasional” users are winners. Conversely, the cards of many private banks often cost them more than 250 francs per year.
Migros and Swisscard trust the podiums
Then come “abroad” users. The study estimates that they spend 5,000 euros per year abroad, paying with their credit card, and they also make the error (see below) to withdraw, with this same card, 1000 euros in cash in the bancomats of the countries it visit. In their case, the best option is the migros cumulus visa, the costs of which are “only” of 363.95 francs, where the most dearly cost them 700 francs or even more.
The study then looks at the “frequent” user profile. The platform estimates that it makes purchases in Switzerland up to 1000 francs per month and spends 5,000 euros per year abroad. And for him too, the cashback Card Amex from Swisscard is the card that generates the least cost (305.75 francs). In comparison, a lot of cards include costs amounting to 750 francs and more.
Holiday advice
Before going on vacation, Moneyland.ch recommends choosing a credit card that is as cheaper as possible or at least adapted. Some cards offer travel insurance. In addition, it is recommended to take a debit card for cash withdrawals. And when you pay or remove money abroad, it is recommended to always choose the local currency. Finally, it is preferable to avoid automatic distributors of isolated tickets (for example in airports or in front of stores). They often charge very high fees. It is generally more advantageous to choose a bancomat of a large bank.
