Crossing Canada on foot: a Norwegian hiker found lifeless

A Norwegian hiker who had embarked on a trip of several years to cross all northern Canada, from James to Alaska, was found lifeless on Sunday, ten days after his loved ones reported his disappearance.

“Gillam and Parcs Canada GRC agents, as well as community researchers from Fort Severn […] Confirmed that the body found on the shore was that of the 29 -year -old Norwegian hiker who was missing, “the Royal Canada Gendarmerie (RCMP) said on Sunday in writing.

On August 14, those relatives of Steffen Skjottelvik, 29, who has traveled Canada for two years already, had reported his disappearance to Canadian police after the Norwegian did not go to the next destination of his itinerary, according to a Gofundme socio -financing campaign set up by a friend.

In his last update, he had informed relatives that he had to arrive “in six hours” at the national historic place of York Factory, in northern Manitoba.

Except that a week after their disappearance, a research team crisscrosing more dangerous areas, including peat bogs and sectors of Rivières Fast current, would have found a backpack and a rifle belonging to the hiker, according to “Global News”.

Then, Sunday, a helicopter flying over the area would have located a body around 10:20 am, according to the RCMP.

“The agents of the GLC de Gillam and Parks Canada, as well as the community researchers of Fort Severn, went on foot to the place indicated and confirmed that the body found on the shore was that of the 29 -year -old Norwegian hiker who was missing,” the police body announced on Sunday.

According to a spokesperson for Steffen Skjottelvik’s family, Christian Dyresen, the hiker was inspired to undertake this trip after a personality of Norwegian television made a similar expedition, reported “Global News”.

The adventures of the twenty -year -old were followed by more than 2,700 people in a group on Facebook entitled “Steffen’s Great Canadian Journey” or “The Great Canadian Voyage of Steffen” in French, in which testimonies of his passage have flocked since his disappearance.

“Memories will remain engraved in the hearts of all those you have touched during your trip. Our thoughts go to the family of Steffen Skjotelvik […] We are honored to have shared a small part of his career and we will keep a precious memory of it, “said Ontario Jacob Betker on Monday, who had crossed the Norwegian at the very beginning of his trip two years ago.
