Cyclist Deadly caught up in the 132: “It’s important to enjoy every moment with the people you love,” says her husband

A year after the tragic death of a 61-year-old cyclist, Hacapée while she was traveling near Route 132 in Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse, her husband was back on the scene of the drama accompanied by her sons and a hundred people, on Saturday morning, where a ghost bike was erected as a memorial.

The latter also took advantage of it to recall the importance of not waiting for tomorrow to enjoy life.

“Even if we say that time is doing things, it’s always difficult to accept today. This is why it is important to enjoy every moment with the people we love, because life can switch quickly, ”said Michel Faucher, in an interview with The newspaper.

The latter also admits that after 42 years of common life, Linda Casey and had several projects in mind as they soon had to take advantage of their retirement.

“We must not wait until tomorrow if we have something to say or do and if we have dreams, it’s important not to wait to make them real.”

Awareness of road users

At the request of his family, a ceremony was therefore organized by the organization Souliers and ghosts Quebec (SVFQ) during which a white painted bike accompanied by a commemorative plaque was installed to honor the memory of the victim, allowing loved ones to meditate, but above all to make users aware.

“It is important that people circulating in the sector see the bicycle and that its death can be used to raise awareness of motorists, but also cyclists to prevent it from happening again,” continued Mr. Faucher around the 132, where motorists did not even deign to slow down during the gathering.

“You have to talk about it and raise awareness among both sides, but especially motorists because they have a machine capable of removing someone’s life in their hands. To say that bikes are on the way is often the easy excuse, but the road is there to be shared, “he continued, always a little emotional.

Another drama a year later

The relatives present as part of the ceremony also had a thought for the young cyclist of 16 years who lost his life in similar circumstances this week, on Route 138, in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures.

SVFQ’s spokesperson, Laurent Deslauriers, has insisted that there is still a lot of work to do with the cohabitation on the roads of Quebec and to make cyclists feel and be safe.

“There was an extremely similar situation no later than this week in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures and this time, it cost the life of a 16-year-old girl. We are talking about a national road, a asphalt shoulder and on the green road in addition, “he was indignant.

“There are solutions, we don’t need to look far and they are not necessarily expensive. If we really want to reach the famous zero vision, it will take more than that, “concluded the spokesperson.
