Death of an American in the West Bank: Washington put pressure on Israel

The United States demanded from Israel on Tuesday an “in-depth” investigation after the death last week of an American-Palestinian, beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank according to the Palestinian Authority.

“I asked Israel to conduct an in-depth investigation into the murder of Saif Musalat, an American citizen who visited his family in Sinjil when he was beaten to death,” wrote the United States ambassador to Jerusalem, Mike Huckabee, on network X.

“The officials of this criminal and terrorist act must be accountable. Saif was only 20 years old, “he added in a rare public demonstration of pressures from the United States on their Israeli ally.

Saif Al-Din Musalat lived in Florida, where he was born, and went in early June to the West Bank “to spend time with his loved ones”, according to his family.

The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health announced last Friday that it died “after being violently beaten, throughout the body, by settlers” in the village of Sinjil, north of Ramallah.

The State Department had confirmed on Saturday that an American citizen had died in the West Bank, and referred any question relating to an investigation towards “the Israeli government”.

Palestinian authorities have announced that a second 23-year-old Palestinian, Mohammed Rizq Hussein Al-Shalabi, died during these same clashes “followed by a ball injury to the chest”.

The violence has soared in the West Bank, a territory occupied since 1967 by Israel, since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, triggered by the attack on the Hamas Palestinian Islamist movement on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023.
