We go back in time until 1963. Dementia 13 (1963) Then stands out as a horrifying thriller produced by a promising young filmmaker: Francis Ford Coppola. First feature film by the director, shot in Ireland with a modest budget, he is often nicknamed “The Coppola Psycho Cheap”.
Classic in his intrigue – inheritance, family secrets, killer with ax -, the film seduces above all by its atmosphere: photography in neat black and white, Gothic decorations, psychological tension and skillfully worked shadows. Despite his constraints, Coppola already reveals a sense of rhythm and suspense that announces his master’s houses.
Good news for moviegoers: Dementia 13 (1963), in its version Director’s Cut (2017), For the first time in France will benefit from a 4K ultra HD Blu-ray outing. A 4K UHD + Blu-ray Combo edition, signed Pathé, is expected on November 19.
