XA bus accident with passengers on board excursion to the beach left six people dead and 47 injured, in the north of the Dominican Republic, on the night of Sunday to Monday, local emergency services announced on Monday.
According to the same source, the bus driver lost control of his vehicle because of a brake failure in full road, at the locality of San Victor (Province of Espailt). Images of rescue operations show the wreck of the bus, a school type vehicle, but depending on the help, the victims are all adults.
Notoriously dangerous roads
The roads of the Dominican Republic are notoriously dangerous, due to their poor condition, the lack of maintenance or poor signaling, according to the World Bank and the road mortality rate is twice the regional average.
Since the beginning of 2025, 887 people have lost their lives in road accidents in this tourist country of around 11 million inhabitants.
