This new building must have an area of more than 8,000 square meters and a capacity of 650 people, and the work must start in September in order to end “long before” the end of Donald Trump’s second term on January 20, 2029, the spokesman said.
The objective is to welcome in particular the great dinners given in honor of foreign heads of state, so far organized in a vast pavilion temporarily planted in the gardens.
Columns, frontispiece … The plans revealed
The ballroom will, according to models made public by the White House, an imposing white building with the very high windows, with columns as well as a frontispiece reminiscent of the main building, whose facade is known worldwide.
It must be built on the site of the current eastern wing, or “East Wing”, where the first lady’s offices are traditionally located, currently Melania Trump. This project promises to be one of the most important on the site since the renovation and the enlargement work carried out by President Theodore Roosevelt at the beginning of the 20th century.
President Harry Truman had also supervised major work between 1948 and 1952, without however altering the external structure.
Mar-a-Lago, l’inspiration
Donald Trump has long mentioned his desire to build a ballroom in the White House, and said Thursday that he was inspired by that of the Turnberry Golf Complex (Scotland), one of the properties held by his family.
His sumptuous Mar-A-Lago residence in Florida also serves as a model to shape the White House in his image. The republican billionaire, inspired by the patios of the latter, for example has diled the lawn of the famous Roseraie de la Maison Blanche, where official events are often organized.
Donald Trump, who never stops in front of ostentation, also instructed the oval office with golden ornaments and installed two immense American flags on lawns. The White House has been the residence as well as the workplace of the American presidents since 1800. The first to live there was John Adams, the second president of the United States. The building, burnt down in 1814 by British troops, had been quickly rebuilt.
