Ellen Degeneres confirms that she had moved to the United Kingdom due to the policies of US President Donald Trump.
Last year, the host of talk-show And his wife Portia de Rossi would have bought a property in the picturesque Cotswolds region in England.
During a conversation on stage with the presenter Richard Bacon on Sunday, Degeneres explained that she and of Rossi decided to settle permanently in the United Kingdom after the election of Trump for a second presidential term in November 2024.
“Yes,” she replied when Bacon asked him if Trump was the reason for this move, according to the BBC. “We arrived the day before the election and we woke up with lots of messages from our friends with tears in tears, and I said to myself:” He won. ” And we decided “we stay here”. “
Degeneres and de Rossi married in 2008, following the cancellation of the ban on homosexual marriage in California.
The television star also expressed its concerns about the recent approaches to leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention aimed at overthrowing a Supreme Court decision authorizing homosexual marriage.
“The Baptist church in America is trying to cancel gay marriage,” continued the 67 -year -old woman. “They literally try to prevent it in the future and possibly cancel it. Portia and I are already informing us, and if they do that, we will get married here. ”
Further in the conversation, Degeneres described the English countryside as “absolutely magnificent”.
“We are just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. Villages and cities and architecture – everything you see is charming and it is simply a simpler lifestyle. ”
“It’s clean. Everything is better here – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I really love being here, ”she said. “We moved here in November, which was not the ideal moment, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love being here. Portia brought her horses, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks. ”
Following multiple allegations concerning a toxic work culture, Degeneres put an end to his program “The Ellen Degeneres Show” in 2021 after 19 seasons.
