Météo France placed the Department of Orne in orange alert to violent thunderstorms this Wednesday June 25, 2025from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Orange vigilance which will be preceded by yellow vigilance from 4 p.m.
Note that the neighboring departments of Calvadosfrom theYourfrom Sarthe and Mayenne are also placed in orange alert.
Violent thunderstorms: mobilization of department services
For its part, the Departmental Council of Orne Announcement, by the voice of its president, the premobilization of all of its services on the roads of the department.
The prospect of violent thunderstorms, announced for this Wednesday at the end of the day, led me, as of this Tuesday evening, to mobilize the managers of our four departmental road infrastructure agencies, so that everything is done to involve our teams, at the slightest glitch.
Thus, the 14 centers of the Departmental Council spread over the Orne will be on the bridge even before the appearance of the first events, with the possibility of quickly ensuring the rise in power of the device.
Christophe de Balorre assures that “at the height of the disturbances, we can Mobilize up to 70 agentswith the possibility of converging them, if a territory were to be much more severely impacted than others ”.
The advice of the department’s road service
-> Limit your trips. As far as possible, postpone your non -essential journeys.
-> Adapt your speed and increase the safety distances. Significantly reduce your speed, whatever the type of road. Be particularly vigilant if you drive a vehicle or a hitch sensitive to the effects of the wind.
-> Be attentive and visible. Stay extremely attentive to your environment: falls of branches, objects, water plates, electric wires that have fallen to the ground. Turn on your cross lights, even in broad daylight but do not use your rear fog lights in case of simple rain because they could dazzle other users.
-> In case of heavy rain or very small visibility. If visibility is less than 50 meters, your speed must be limited to 50 km/h on the entire road network. If the conditions become too dangerous (torrential rain, intense hail, violent wind), stop safe on a rest area or parking. Avoid parking under a tree, a power line or a metal structure, as they can attract lightning or fall. Do not leave your vehicle, which offers good protection against lightning. Activate your distress lights to report your presence.
-> Faced with floods. Do not engage in any, on foot or by car, on a flooded track or near a flood river. A few dozen centimeters of water are enough to take a vehicle.
-> Secure your vehicle. Before the thunderstorms arrived, if possible, park your vehicle in a sheltered place and far from the trees, panels or other objects likely to fall.
Thus, this Tuesday evening, the agency leaders “stalled the roadmaps of their teams,” notes the president of Balorre.
Their work will resume tomorrow morning, still in close consultation with the security forces, in particular the firefighters including the departmental organization, with its network of rescue centers, is also ready to cope on the field.
The president of Balorre invites to “the greater cautionfrom the first episodes of rain or storm ”. He suggests that others “postpone any displacement that would not have an emergency character”.
