Political leaders of EELV, of the PS, as well as former rebellious, met on Wednesday July 2 in Bagneux, to act their will to have a joint candidacy in the presidential elections of 2027, without LFI, the PCF and public place, the party of Raphaël Glucksmann.
“Historical moment”, “big day”, “turning”: a year after the start of the new Popular Front (NFP), the unitary left (without LFI, the Communists and Raphaël Glucksmann) made “the oath” Wednesday in Bagneux (Haut-de-Seine) to have “a common project” and a common candidate for 2027.
The Socialist Party, the Environmentalists, Generations, Standing (the party of François Ruffin) and the next, the party of the ex-insoumis, gathered at the invitation of the ex-candidate of the new Popular Front for Matignon, Lucie Castets, in order to discuss a joint candidacy for the next presidential election.
“We have acted that we will have a joint candidacy in 2027,” said Lucie Castets at a press conference after a day of discussions, with “procedures for appointing the candidate” which will be decided at the end of 2025, and the choice of the candidate “between May and October 2026”.
Creation of a “common platform”
“What you have in front of you is a team that announces that it will prepare for two years” and “will be ready to govern,” she said.
Participants also decided to launch a “programmatic approach”, with six thematic conventions (education, industry, etc.) throughout France, open to the population, to experts, to civil society, to establish a common “rupture” program.
“We will first build a common platform, which will bind us,” said the boss of the socialists Olivier Faure.
“Today is a great day for the left and the Ecologists,” he said, evoking “an oath of the somewhat special palm game”, the one “not to leave the monopoly of the alternative to the extreme right”.
“We do not have a boulevard in front of us, but this path I believe it possible and achievable,” he added.
A highly envisaged “primary”
“By creating this Popular Front 2027, the light is rekindled at the bottom of the tunnel,” said the patron of Ecologists Marine Tondelier.
If they have until the end of the year to find the designation mode, she clearly mentioned “a primary”, before explaining that it was a “strong option”, and that there were “no other ways of designation possible”. But some party leaders, such as Olivier Faure, will have to have this choice validated by activists.
“We have activated that we will have a common program and a common candidate, it’s not nothing,” insisted deputy François Ruffin, candidate for this primary and at the origin of the NFP Jute after the dissolution of 2024.
“We take an act” intended to “thwart the scenario of the two irreconcilable lefts, said Clémentine Autain (after), also on the ranks for primary. She specifies that the door remains “open” for LFI and its leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, and for Raphaël Glucksmann.
