Epidemia of measles: resurgence in the north, an indigenous case in Reunion

The distrust that arouses vaccination begins to have serious repercussions. Measles, a long-eradicated disease thanks to the vaccines, makes a worrying return to the North and Pas-de-Calais. According to the Regional Health Agency, since the beginning of 2025, these two departments have been affected by active circulation of the virus.

Between January 1 and May 31, 117 cases were identified in the North and 22 in Pas-de-Calais, reports France 3, containing the figures for ARS. At the country level, 658 were detected.

First indigenous case in six years in Reunion

Far from Hauts-de-France, the meeting had its first indigenous first case last week since 2019. As the 1st reports, it is a child of almost two years. Immediately, his contacts were sought. Among them, 11 children, two of whom were not vaccinated.

France is not the only affected. In the European Union, the year 2024 experienced ten times more cases of redness than 2023. In the United Kingdom, the death of a child rekindled the calls of the British health authorities to have the youngest vaccinated.

Highly contagious disease, measles can cause serious complications. However, it is avoidable thanks to the ROR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) administered from early childhood. After two doses, it protects in almost 100 % of cases.
