- Sandy Maendly, consultant alongside Fred Scola, was brilliant in her comments during Switzerland-Norway.
- She was 89 times international, she transmitted her analyzes with accuracy.
- She also talks about the importance of this euro for the promotion of women’s football in Switzerland.
Right of interventions, relevance in rhythm, precision of intensity, delicacy of the analysis: Sandy Maendly is probably no more on the field, but she has kept all the codes. At the microphone, alongside Fred Scolaa, the former international (89 selections) is the RTS consultant and she launched her euro brilliantly, despite the defeat. No surprise, she has been experienced in exercise, she has been the voice of the Swiss for almost two years.
Afterwards Switzerland’s defeat against Norwaya curious mixture in this voice: disappointment and pride at the same time, at the same time, in a strange, but understandable sharing.
Lutting for the ball between two Swiss and a Norwegian before the eyes of the Swiss selector, Pia Sundhagus.

The stake of this Euro 2025 is there, Sandy Maendly knows: beyond the journey of the Swiss selection, the opportunity to convince here, in Switzerland, the quality of the game presented. In Basel, there were 34,063 spectators, a big atmosphere, emotions.
Change mentalities
“Among all these people present at the stadium, there were of course not only fans of women’s football,” says Sandy Maendly. There were people who came to see the event and they saw something pleasant. Switzerland has lost, yes, it’s a shame to see two big defensive errors, but the first period was beautiful, I am reassured about the quality of the game offered, on automatisms seen in attack, on the fact that Switzerland was able to respond to this pressure, despite the defeat. This is also how we will change the mentalities of some around female football. ”
Sandy Maendly contributes to it with her comments. “Before a match, I am preparing without stress,” she explains. No tension, especially impatience. The most important thing is not to play the match before it takes place. I also focus to translate my observations or my emotions in a journalistic way, not like a fan. ”
Fred Scola and she form a complementary duo. “We know each other well, there is a natural complicity that exists,” says the journalist RTS. We pay attention, we settle the details together before the match and then get started in spontaneity. ”
A big opportunity missed by Géraldine Reuteler, against Norway.

Successful style exercise. An example: unlike the Margotton-Lizarazu duo, which seems to have had trouble understanding why the penalty granted to Switzerland was canceled, Sandy Maendly quickly understood that there was a suspicion of offside from the action. She is now preparing for the next Switzerland meeting against Iceland in Bern on Sunday.
The first in Geneva
The Wankdorf will also be full, as will be the Geneva stadium at the Swiss-Finland next Thursday. Popular success all over the country, for all meetings, even those where the Swiss are not on the lawn. Except in Geneva?
Big downside, almost a shadow on the board: this Friday evening, there is Denmark-Sude in La Praille, the first of the five matches planned on site, and a few thousand seats should remain empty. Ditto for Portugal-Italia on Monday evening.
“It is frustrating that Geneva is the bad student of the class, sighs the RTS consultant. A Denmark-Sude is perhaps not the most attractive poster if it was a male match, but for girls, seeing the Swedes in action, it’s very interesting. Ditto for Portugal-Italia. I only comment on Switzerland’s matches during the group phase, but I will be present at the stadium for these meetings. ”
You have to hope that the Geneva public will wake up. “Yes, because it would be a shame, otherwise,” says Sandy Maendly. Maybe the Genevan is like that, he points to the stadium at the last moment to take his ticket. I know, relatives, who told me that they will be in the match, but that they do not yet have their ticket. We’ll see. All I can say is that it is an experience to live. “
The stadium fills gently
Exactly: Where are we in Geneva For Denmark-Sude this Friday evening and for the Portugal-Italie next week? Last Monday, the Nordic shock had interested 17,000 spectators, already provided with a ticket, and only 15,000 for the Latin duel. Have things changed favorably?
The president of the Geneva Stadium Foundation, Imad Fattal, has no doubt. “Yes, there has been a form of effervescence for a few days, an enthusiasm,” he explains. I feel a craze, people who did not know that Portugal and Italy clashed in Geneva and who want to come. Ditto for Denmark-Sude this Friday evening: with the launch of the euro, the public wakes up. ”
In any case, even if these two matches may not display complete, the Geneva stadium will be proud. More than 500 people, volunteers and others, refine the last details for a stadium up to the euro: in the colors of the event, with changing rooms.
A pampered lawn
And the lawn? The lawn of the Geneva stadium has often been problematic, but it should not be the case this summer. “The heat wave did not help,” explains Imad Fattal, but the lawn is very beautiful, it was at rest for five weeks. There is an abundant watering these days, of course. We also use our fans (Editor’s note: Geneva and Basel are the only two to have them, they make it possible to evacuate the residual humidity). In short, everything is ready, there is an excitement, I admit, before this first match here. ”
A dream? “Yes,” admits Imad Fattal. That Switzerland wins Sunday in Bern against Iceland and then qualified for the quarterfinals at the Geneva stadium, beating Finland next Thursday, in front of a full enclosure. ”
It is also Sandy Maendly’s dream. With, as a bonus, play, technical gestures, emotions. Women’s football that seduces. “I have no doubt that women’s football is interesting,” she says. I liked the game offered by Switzerland: even if it lost, it was exciting. In a more global sense, I am convinced that we will see beautiful matches throughout the competition. ”
