This summer, we are starting to be used to very heavy time … and as well continue to get used to it, because it’s not over! Feeling of 35 and more are possible in the coming days for southern Quebec, enough to remind us that even if August is already started, summer is still in full swing. Forecast.
A context that sweats
A fairly prolonged overwhelming heat sequence awaits the south of the province. When, how and why? Let’s start by explaining the “how” and the “why” of this suffocating situation, in other words, the atmospheric context. “Quebec is in a ridge context. A mass of hot air is well installed on the beautiful province, ”says Alexandra Giroux, meteorologist.
As of Sunday, humidity could particularly be felt. This good dose of heavy heat is a gracefulness of a mass of wet air from the United States that goes back to Quebec.
We forget the little wool
The result? Sectors in southern Quebec could taste several consecutive days with a mercury above 30 °. The cherry on the sundae: the overwhelming humidity could increase the temperatures felt at least up to 35, possibly almost 40. A heat wave of five days and more is not to be ruled out.
A triple summer summer
According to data recorded between 1991 and 2020, the Montreal region is normally entitled, each year, to 16.6 days with temperatures felt from 35 and more and to 2.6 days to 40 and more. Well, 2025 obviously wanted to come and brew this average! Indeed, dated August 7, the metropolis has already suffocated for 21 days at temperatures felt 35 and more. An even more striking data: Montreal has near the triple days with a wet index of 40 and more! “This year, the large Montreal region is already 7 days with a feeling of 40 and more. The potential to add an additional day to this total could be present, in the coming days. One thing is certain: the next week should certainly be very hot, but it remains to be seen how intense humidity will be ”, underlines Alexandra Giroux.
Those who have no air conditioning at home should be a little reassured: the overwhelming heat sequence that comes up in the south of Quebec should not be as impactful as that of June 23 and 24. This more than hot memory of experienced temperatures of 45 is still very fresh in our memory!
