Several Arab countries call for the disarmament of Hamas
Seventeen countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt, called Hamas on Tuesday to hand over its arms to the Palestinian Authority, during a conference at the UN aimed at instilling a little life with the two-state, Israeli and Palestinian solution.
The “New York Declaration” Prepared by France and Saudi Arabia, co -president of the conference, calls for the end of the war in Gaza, to achieve “To a fair, peaceful and sustainable resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of the implementation of the two-state solution”.
This text is supported by fifteen other countries (including Brazil, Canada, Turkey, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, the United Kingdom) as well as the European Union and the Arab League.
It stipulates that “Governance, the maintenance of order and security throughout the Palestinian territory must only be incumbent on the Palestinian Authority, with the appropriate support”. “Hamas must put an end to its Gaza control and put its arms back to the Palestinian authority”add the text.
These statements echo commitments made in June by the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, with a view to this conference and the possibility of convincing more countries to recognize the Palestinian State.

The seventeen countries also provide their support “The deployment of an international mission of temporary stabilization” in Gaza. This mission would be intended in particular to protect the civilian population, to “Support the transfer of security responsibilities” to the Palestinian authority and to provide “Safety guarantees for Palestine and Israel, including surveillance” of a future ceasefire.
