Speaking, Ms. Byanyima expressed her admiration in the face of the remarkable advances of Côte d’Ivoire, stressing the impressive reduction in the prevalence of HIV, from 4.7 % in 2010 to a remarkable 1.7 % in 2025. She also praised the resilience of the Ivory Coast, which knew how to maintain its commitments in the struggle, despite the gradual withdraw of the United States.
The head of the UN organization in charge of the fight against AIDS, warmly congratulated the Ivorian government for its growing investments in the health sector, highlighting the structuring role of universal health coverage (CMU). This major social initiative actively contributes to improving the management of living people with HIV. In addition, Ms. Byanyima recognized Côte d’Ivoire as the first African country contributing to international solidarity efforts in health matters.
“UNAIDS is ready to further accompany Côte d’Ivoire in its mission. The country is in the process of becoming a model of success in the fight against HIV,” said Byanyima, thus reaffirming the continuous support of its organization.
For his part, Minister Pierre N’Gimba expressed his gratitude for this mark of interest and solidarity. He reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to erect the fight against HIV/AIDS in national priority. “A healthy population is the basis of the sustainable development of our country. We will intensify efforts to further reduce the disease and aim, in the long term, an Ivory Coast without AIDS,” said the Minister, stressing the country’s determination to eradicate the disease.
