The authorities of the canton of Bern laid the first stone on Friday marking an important stage in the construction of the new police center in Niederwangen. The site is planned for 2028, at an unchanged cost of 373 million francs.
(Keystone-ATS) The forecast was confirmed, despite the “challenges linked to the construction and the brief interruption of the site”. “The excavation work could be successfully completed,” said the State of Bern. The structural work and development work, which will start, should last three years.
The new police center will bring together nine decentralized sites, said the press release. He will be able to accommodate different services from the cantonal police, the cantonal engagement center, day detention premises and interrogation rooms as well as premises for the cantonal conduct body.
1400 people
Synergies will increase the reaction capacity of the police forces and lower buildings related to buildings by two thirds. The new center will contribute to “effective and modern police work”. It will be connected to Niederwangen station by a bridge for soft mobility and a public pedestrian path.
Of the around 1,400 people who will work in the police center, almost half will arrive with public transport. The majority of people who use their vehicle will reach it directly from motorway access. These trips will therefore not impact the surrounding districts.
The ceremony was held in the presence of the president of the Council-Executive Christoph Neuhaus, director of public works, and his colleague Philippe Müller, director of security. In detail, a complete digital planning system called BIM TO Field (for Building Information Modeling) will be used.
Precision to the millimeter
All the information required for construction will be entered digitally and transposed directly to the site thanks to special software and mobile devices. According to the press release, the system allows the elements to be positioned to the nearest millimeter and reduces the risk of defects.
Digital implementation is five times more effective than manual measures made by a pair of specialists. It makes it possible to better coordinate the construction processes and to document them exhaustively. No less than 5,400 tonnes of iron and 44,000 cubic meters of concrete will be transformed.
The construction will be carried out by the real estate service provider HRS Real Estate SA, as a total entrepreneur.
