Food waste: Swiss table and Google redistribute frozen

The frozen frozen should avoid food waste, as they keep longer. However, their storage and transport remain complicated and many frozen products also end up in the trash, when they are still perfectly consumable. The Table Swiss Foundation estimates, this Monday, that frozen represents 5% to 20% of the 980,000 tonnes of food unnecessarily destroyed each year in the country.

The organization announces that it has launched a collection and redistribution project which will start on August 18, in collaboration with Google.org, the philanthropic branch of the tech giant. “Logistics around frozen products has long been a gap in the field of food recovery. If so many frozen products of impeccable quality have finished in the trash, it was often for lack of structure on the last kilometer, ”explains Marc Ingold, Swiss table director.

The latter hopes to be able to save tens of thousands of tonnes of food each year in Switzerland. Ultimately, around 500 social institutions should be able to benefit from this redistribution.
