The mayor of Châtillon-sur-Seine says he is dismayed, and the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau denounces “an anti-Muslim act of great cowardice”.
“This night, people tried to set fire to a Muslim prayer room” in Châtillon-sur-Seine (Côte-d’Or), written on X the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau. “My thoughts go to the faithful hit by this anti-Muslim act of great cowardice”he continues this August 15.
The facts in question occurred the day before, around 9:30 p.m., says Mayor Roland Lemaire, attached by phone this Friday. “I was not there, but the gendarmes explained to me that fools had lit prospectus, which they had found in a yellow trash can next to the door of the prayer room.”
This building, located very close to the municipal theater of Châtillon-sur-Seine, was bought years ago by the Turkish Muslim community of the city, which notably organizes its weekly prayers.
The damage is limited because a passer -by quickly turned off the flames. “The door is slightly blackened. But symbolically, it is inadmissible”reacts Roland Lemaire. Especially since this is not a first. “Three or four months ago, we had the same problem.”
The gendarmerie of Châtillon-sur-Seine investigation to find the authors. There was no video surveillance, but “24 cameras will be installed by the end of the year”, recalls the mayor.
