Four hundred Romands en route to Rome for the jubilee of young people – Swiss Catholic portal

From July 28 to August 3, 2025, 400 young people aged 16 to 30 from the French -speaking dioceses will join Rome to participate in the young people. Cath.ch will be traveling.

The global gathering takes place as part of the holy year “pilgrims of hope” decreed by Pope Francis. A million young people from around the world are expected in the eternal city for this great spiritual event, report the organizers of the Pilgrimage Romand in a press release.

The young people of Romandie will participate in particular in a penitential day, in a prayer vigil, then in a closing mass chaired by Pope Leo XIV on the university campus of Tor Vergata, in Rome. In this symbolic place, the vigil of the World Youth Days (OPD) of the year 2000 had been held with Saint John Paul II.

In coach, by bike, on foot

Among the 400 young French -speaking people who will go to Rome, several groups have chosen a daring and deeply symbolic mode of travel. Thirty left on foot on Sunday July 20, from the village of Tagliacozzo and walk towards Rome for a week, on the way to Saint-Thomas.

A group, also made up of around thirty participants, left early on July 18 by bicycle from Martigny, crossing the Alps to join Rome to the strength of the calves. The other pilgrims will join Rome in bus on July 27.

And 1^is August in Italian colors

This year, the Swiss national holiday of August 1 will be celebrated in a completely unprecedented way: in Rome, in the heart of the young people. On this occasion, all the young Swiss present in the eternal city will meet for a mass at the end of the morning at the Saint-Pierre basilica. This highlight, placed under the sign of national unity and shared faith, will allow participants to live a feast of August 1 in Italian colors … but the heart resolutely Swiss, ensure the organizers.
