The announcement is official. France will recognize the state of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September in New York, announced Emmanuel Macron on his social networks, Thursday, July 24.
“True to its historical commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I decided that France will recognize the state of Palestine”
wrote the head of state. “The urgency is today that war is stopped in Gaza and that the civilian population is rescued”
he hammered. He accompanied his message with a letter signed on his part and addressed to the president of the Palestinian authority, Mahmoud Abbas.
The vice-president of the Palestine Liberation Organization (OLP), Hussein al-Cheikh, praised a “position [qui] reflects France’s attachment to international law and its support for the rights of the Palestinian people to self -determination and the establishment of our independent state. “

In September, France will co -reside with Saudi Arabia an international conference at the level of heads of state and government aimed at relaunching the so -called “Palestinian and Israeli solution. This conference, initially scheduled for June, was postponed at the last minute due to the war between Israel and Iran. In the meantime, a ministerial meeting will be held on July 28 and 29 in New York.
