François bottle’s crazy challenge for his dad who died of cancer

Summer holidays are often an opportunity to meet, rest … François Boutement, nicknamed “Fanfan” has decided to make a XXL vacation … and to embark on an exceptional project. While the runners of the Tour de France have crisscrossed the roads and passes, another Breton solitary cyclist so strong pedal, but far from the peloton. For his Tour de France to him, this 39 -year -old sportsman and traveler borders the coasts, borders the borders on the Belgian and German side, “because cancer has no borders,” said Magali, his wife, and traveling 3,400 km with 30,000 m of elevation gain in 23 stages at the rate of 170 km on average per day, all in record time of 25 days.

Determined to help patients and their families

The loss of his dad in 2023 following very aggressive cancer rekindled his determination to act to help patients and their families. More than a sporting feat, this challenge is based on a real cause: to collect donations for the benefit of the association breath of hope against cancer which financially supports the Eugène-Marquis center in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). Fanfan knows that he has the means to succeed in this crazy bet, because he has already done as well in 2016 to go by bicycle to Switzerland, in 2017 in Spain, in 2018 in Portugal and still for the benefit of the League against Cancer.

François is “courageous, determined and persevering” according to his wife. His journey led him to the Alps where legendary passes expected like the Granon, the Galibier or the Alpe d’Huez, before attacking the Pyrenees with the Tourmalet, the Aspin or Peyresourde passes.

For this fourth challenge, Fanfan is accompanied by his wife and their three children who ensure logistical and technical follow -up. With each stage arrival, a stand is deployed to collect donations and sell t-shirts, gourdes and other goodies specially created for this challenge. All donations collected will be fully donated to the association.

During her previous adventures, the team managed to collect thousands of euros and she hopes to be able to do as well.

For his sixth day from Thionville, after swallowing 179 km, 1,728 m of elevation and exceeded the bar 1,100 km in total, Fanfan stopped in Saverne on Sunday July 20, accompanied by his son Nolan for the last part of the journey. The meeting is already given for the final stage of 60 km on August 9 entitled “Rolling for cancer”, which will leave from Rennes to rally Dinan and which will be festive.
