The city of Geneva is launching a free home racing service service for seniors. From July to October, people 65 and over, living in the city, will be able to benefit from weekly delivery of their races made on the markets of shore, Champel and Plainpalais, or in the Migros supermarket in their neighborhood.
(Keystone-ATS) This pilot project, carried out in partnership with the Genèveroule association, is part of the long-life policy, aimed at promoting the well-being, autonomy and maintenance of social ties of the elderly, said the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity (DCSS) in a press release on Thursday.
“Purchasing in your neighborhood is an essential lever for socialization. The weight of races can however represent an obstacle for many seniors, even when they are able to move. By offering them the possibility of going to the market or the store without having to worry about the transport of commissions, the city wants to encourage seniors to remain active, mobile and preserve their local relationships, “she writes.
Maximum of 20 kilos
In the markets, interested persons put their shopping with partner merchants and contact the Genderoulers on 079 859 99 40 to agree on home delivery. On the bank market, a gender stand supports purchases directly. In Migros stores, just put your shopping for customer service, it is specified.
Deliveries are made Monday to Saturday, by electric bike. The races from the markets are delivered at the latest around 1:00 p.m., while those carried out in supermarkets arrive two to three hours after deposit in customer service. Each delivery is limited to a maximum of 20 kilos (two bags), once a week.
At the end of the test period, an assessment will be carried out to find out if the system is perpetuated, notes the DCSS.
