The former mayor led the town for fourteen years. These years of town hall were marked by the porter project and the fight against the cannelet sandbag.

- The former mayor of Avusy settled in Valais after twenty-two years of political commitment.
- The porter project and the cannelet sandstone marked these years of town hall.
- In Valais, it is already involved in local associative life.
He returned the keys to the town hall, sold his cabinetmaking workshop to one of his employees and his house to one of his daughters. After twenty-two years of political commitment to AvusyRené Jemmely made her luggage and moved in with his wife, Monique, in Valais, leaving her old town in hand of a new executive.
A change of drastic life that leaves a vacuum. “I was mayor for fourteen years, this represents (in addition to my work) about a hundred and forty hours of work per month, plus evening commitments and weekends. But I have never been fed up, “he said before adding:” I have learned a lot and particularly appreciated the many human contacts. It is certain that there will be an emptiness, but the advantage is that having moved, I will not spend every morning in front of the town hall … “
If he remembers his political career with pleasure, he also remembers his first four years as an assistant. “I had dared to present myself as independent in the face of the municipal agreement, which had hegemony on the town hall for years, and I obtained the headquarters. It had been moderately appreciated and I found myself for four years isolated, facing the other two members of the executive who were not delighted to have me by their side. ”
Flawless investment
These years of town hall have been marked by two large files: the porter project, a subdivision of 29 dwellings distributed in two buildings, which will welcome its first inhabitants at the end of the year, and that of La Sablière du Canelet – A company against which the municipality fought for twenty years so that it ceases its recycling activities in agricultural land -, which is supposed to end this summer with the dismantling of the facilities.
In Avusy, the work of the former magistrate is hailed. We praise his seriousness and his unfailing investment. “He really did everything he could for the town, welcomes the new mayor, Eric Gardi. It was open to dialogue, but you shouldn’t push too far. Some will say that it was a little too rigid on certain points or files. ”
An opinion shared by the president of the municipal council, Françoise Cerutti: “He had a high quality of listening to the elders and young people and was generally appreciated, especially in the school environment or with municipal companies, for which he was very invested. On the other hand, it was a little more tense in terms of development. ”
Early retirement
The former magistrate is now looking to the future. “We recently settled near Nax, at an altitude of 1000 m, and we organized a hanging of a rack which allowed us to meet the inhabitants of the village. I notably sympathized with the president of the commune and has since entered into several local associations. You know, if we do not arrive with our big mouth of Genevans, we integrate very well in Valais! ”
Geneva commitments
Will he get started again in politics? “It is not planned for the moment, but I am not saying no in the long term, even if it is more complicated in Valais when you are independent. Here, you have to be from the center to be elected, but I never wanted to join a party. ”
If his new life seems to suit him perfectly, he still will make appearances at the end of the lake. To see his grandchildren, but also to honor various professional commitments which he keeps in the canton: those of vice-president of Geneva group of wood tradesan expert at exams for the CFC of cabinetmaker and member of the steering committee of The French -speaking, cabinetmaking and carpentry federation.
Above all, he will make an expected appearance on September 25 to officially say goodbye to his communes, during an evening organized by the town hall. “It is a party in honor of all the outgoing elected officials, but it is true that I will be a bit of the fitted piece,” he quips with a touch of pride and nostalgia.
