The strengths of the day

IRAN: After the American attacks on Iranian nuclear sites on the night of Saturday to Sunday, the head of Iranian diplomacy Abbas Araghchi must speak today in Moscow with Russian president Vladimir Putin. “I will lead serious consultations,” he said on the sidelines of a meeting of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) in Istanbul.

RELIGION: The Federal Office of STAT (OFS) today publishes the results of an investigation into religion, spirituality, language and culture in Switzerland. These are the lessons of the survey conducted in 2024.

HODGERS: This Monday is due to the deadline for the deposit of lists for the complementary election to the Geneva Council of State of September 28, made necessary after the start of the Antonio Hodgers green in mid-term. The candidates already announced are Rémy Pagani (Popular Union), Nicolas Wealder (Greens), Lionel Dugerdil (UDC), Maikl Gerzner (MCG) and Xavier Magnin (Center).

Today is …: Like every June 23, it is today the International Day for the Public Service. The United Nations Public Service Day aims to celebrate the value and virtue of the public service for the community, to underline the contribution of the public service to the development process, to recognize the work of civil servants and to encourage young people to pursue careers in the public sector. Seen in the press

DIPLOMACY. The United States has not informed Switzerland of the attack on Iran. Monika Schmutz Kirgöz, of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAE), confirmed it to the German newspapers in Tamedia, stressing that the situation is “very worrying”. Switzerland acts in Iran as a protective power for the United States-a particularly delicate mandate in the current context. According to Ms. Schmutz Kirgöz, the diplomatic channel between Washington and Tehran remains open and is “actively used”. We still hoped to be able to avoid climbing by dialogue. From now on, priority is de -escalation.

Geneva. The municipal roads in Geneva reigns a working atmosphere deemed “execrable”, relates the tribune of Geneva which is based on a dozen testimonies of collaborators. This sealed atmosphere feeds tensions, high absenteeism and accusations of toxic management. Employees denounce pressures, disparaging remarks and suspect hires. For its part, management assumes a hardening of management: “the behaviors which were, wrongly, tolerated are no longer”. The hierarchy quotes speeding, threats between collaborators, or the abandonment of their workplace to go shopping. The security department of Marie Barbey-Chappuis to which the clean road-city service has not wished to express themselves on the issue.

School transport. In Vétroz (VS) a cyclobus has been transporting children from the crèche to school from May 29. It is a Swiss first, according to the Nouvelliste. This electric vehicle is equipped with eight seats with pedals for children, and is led by an adult. This project aims to limit the use of “parents-taxi” and to offer a playful alternative to the school bus. Although the cyclobus already circulates everywhere in Europe, it has so far had no legal basis in Switzerland. A temporary approval was issued to him by the Valais cantonal service of road traffic and navigation. Technical adjustments were necessary. The total cost of the project amounts to 25,000 francs, half funded by the cantonal mobility service.

ENVIRONMENT. According to the biologist Piet Spaak, interviewed by St. Galler Tagblatt, the Quagga mussels in Lake Constance become larger and heavier. Their size varies from a few millimeters to 2.5 centimeters, but increases on average. Their density seems to stabilize around 4000 molds per square meter, double that of 2021. These molds filter the plankton, thus reducing the food available for fish and jeopardizing fishing. In addition, they colonize drinking water pipes, which represents a technical problem.

DEFENSE. Since 2019, requests from people making civil service to return to the army are often rejected, reports the Blick. Out of 112 requests received, only 31 were accepted, 73 refused and 8 are still under examination, according to the army. The main reason invoked is the non-compliance with formal criteria: the first commitment to civil service must be completed before considering a return to the army, and the number of remaining days of service must make it possible to follow a recruit school as well as at least two rehearsal courses. Many requests fail to fulfill these conditions.
