The latest figures from the Cantonal Office of the statistical (OCSTAT) Confirm the breathlessness of the construction of new housing in Geneva. The canton indeed recorded a gain of 570 dwellings during the second quarter of 2025. Admittedly, it is more than in the first quarter (345), but less than the average of the last five years (721 dwellings per quarter).
According to the OCSTAT, the 2063 dwellings won the last twelve months spend “a drop of 41% compared to the particularly high total of 3,503 dwellings recorded during the period from July 2023 to June 2024”.

This slowdown, combined with continuous population growth, explains a vacant housing rate that has reached its lowest level (0.34%) since 2012, explained the “Genève Tribune” in a article recent.
This gain of 2063 dwellings decomposes as follows: while 293 dwellings were destroyed, 2,356 were built, 1857 of which come from new constructions and 499 are from transformations. These transformations are mainly from raising (237 dwellings). At the end of June, the Geneva park stands at 252,906 housing.
Finally, the number of new housing under construction at the end of June 2025 remains high with 7,994 dwellings, communicates the Cantonal Statistics Office. This concerns above all large real estate projects such as the Vernets district in the city of Geneva, from Rolliet to Plan-les-Ouates and Concorde in Vernier.
