The future district of the star revised in terms of global warming
The authorities presented the contours of one of the key sectors of the PAV. The mineral square is abandoned, the automotive traffic buried.

- The Star 2 sector is part of the Star district, called to become the center of the PAV.
- Its PLQ (localized neighborhood plan) was presented on Monday evening.
- Sweet mobility, urban forest: several aspects take into account climate change.
No large mineral square, but an urban forest. No new parking lot, but a tunnel to serve existing works. The brushed portrait of the Star 2 sector reveals a space that wants to be resolutely “peaceful”, adapted to climate change and intended for pedestrians.
The information session of the new localized neighborhood plan (PLQ) was organized on Monday evening on the initiative of the Territory department (DT) – But in the absence of his chief, Antonio Hodgers.
Located south of the P+R and the avenue de la Praille, the sector called “Star 2” represents only a modest portion in the immensity of the future city of the PAV – 12,000 dwellings and 6000 jobs spread over 230 hectares. It is nonetheless a key element, since the star district is intended to become the nerve center of PAV.

The Star 2 sector is located near the P+R and south of Avenue de la Praille.

Star 2 has only one island, embellished with a 90 -meter tour, a hybrid form obviously in vogue in the PAV. The equivalent of 500 dwellings all the same, figure revised upwards. “This is an important change,” comments Stephen Griek, project manager at Pav (DPAV).
Exit the mineral place
Initially, the district was mainly housed in activity areas and public facilities. Three other islets are planned for the star, of which The Pictet tower under construction. At the heart, a large place must be arranged. She wanted to be mineral, in accordance with The guidance image made in 2015. This will not be the case.
It was privileged to grow an urban forest and to “burst” the place in several pieces put in each other. “Climate warming, it must be anticipated and responded,” said Stephen Griek.
In terms of development, it is a paradigm shift. We first think where to plant trees and then to public spaces. The opposite of the plain of Plainpalais, in short.

This major adjustment, the fruit of joint work Led last year with the town of Carougedon’t stop there. While The Drize will cross the neighborhood Until that of acacias, the authorities assume to give priority – if not exclusivity – to soft mobility and public transport. The main traffic axis will consist of a cycle path on two axes. A new bus line will be introduced.
No new parking
Avenue de la Praille will be “returned to pedestrians” and “wooded”, explained the civil servants, using a term that the city of Geneva would not deny. Below this axis, a one -way tunnel will connect the parking lots of the UBS and Pictet banks. What ensure the collection of the garbage in the neighborhood and make the truck ballet supplying the companies supplying businesses.
“A minimalist solution,” says Stéphane Cadrio, director at DPAV. The car will hardly have its place on the surface. The ratio selected is approximately a parking space for four apartments, but four bikes per apartment. Translation: 2400 places for bikes and only 145 for cars, including five for people with reduced mobility. A final point which has strangled the representative of the Geneva Federation of associations of disabled people (Fégaph) present in the public.
Where did the courthouse go?
Other people present have also been surprised not to see a location for the future courthouse. The civil servants replied that the question was under discussion, just like that of the new orientation cycle, great forgotten of the pop now “under study” too.
The PLQ was to be put to the public inquiry from next Tuesday for a duration six weeks, but several associations deplored that this stage intervenes during the summer, which complicates the consultation of their members. The authorities will study the possibility of “shifting or lengthening” this period. The first works are scheduled by 2030.
