GMKTEC EVO -T1 – Press review: Mini PC with Intel Core Ultra 9 for AI models, LLM and games via Oculink

With the EVO-T1 GMKTEC offers a mini PC in its portfolio which offers both high performance and large features in our review. At the heart of the system is the Core Ultra 9 285H of Intel, a modern 16 -hearted processor, to which the manufacturer grants an 80 Watts TDP. This means that the EVO-T1 can easily stand up to Intel Ultra 9 285H and Intel Ultra 9 285h Geekom Mini55 processors equipped with the same processor. The Mini PC is also equipped with 64 GB of RAM DDR5 and a fast PCIE 4.0 SSD. With the GMK-A-Assistant, GMKTEC provides its own instance of Locally executable, which makes an excellent use of the powerful base.

EVO-T1 has a high quality appearance, which is supported by the black and gold color diagram. However, GMKTEC uses a lot of plastic, which decreases somewhat general impression, although there are no manufacturing defects. The case is slightly larger than that of most competitors, but this benefits a larger cooling unit. After all, the manufacturer announces a TDP up to 80 watts, which we can confirm during the test. In our performance tests, the EVO-T1 shows that it is not only strong on paper. Whether it is video editing, rendering, software development or virtualization, the small computer offers a wide range of possible applications. The Intel Arc integrated graphic unit is sufficient for daily multimedia and graphics tasks, but an external graphics card via the OCULINK connection is recommended for gourmet GPU games or workflows. In our practical test, we have equipped the mini PC with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 card to illustrate the leap in front of performance with the EGPU. The OCULINK connection is much more efficient than USB4 and offers a significant performance gain in 3D applications.

Global connectivity is extended, but not perfect. In addition to several USB-A ports, the mini-PC offers USB4, the OCULINK connection mentioned above, as well as HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort for image outlet. Two 2.5 GBE LAN ports are also available, as well as a wireless module, although it does not use the most recent standard. The WLAN module can be replaced by a more recent module if necessary. The Mini PC also has three M.2 slots (for example Samsung 990 Pro, currently $ 295 USD), which allow storage capacities of up to 12 TB.

The largest asset is the performance offered compared to the size of the case. There is also a wide range of interfaces and the possibility of supporting the EGPU. However, the cooling system works audiblely at full load, which can be disturbing in a silent working environment. The price is also ambitious: with 64 GB of RAM and 1 TB of SSD, the model is in a four -digit range, depending on the offer. The GMKTEC EVO-T1 is mainly aimed at users who are looking for maximum calculation power and flexible connectivity options in a compact case. For developers, creation professionals and intensive users, it can replace a complete desktop computer, with a significantly lower size. However, if you mainly use office applications or if you have a tight budget, you will find cheaper solutions on the market.
