Good for SwitzerlandTrump will not apply customs taxes on gold
The American president said on Monday that the import of gold from Switzerland will not be taxed at 39%.
Gold will escape customs taxes.
Getty ImagesDonald Trump raised doubts on Monday on the threats of customs taxes concerning gold. According to AFP information, “gold would not be subject to new American customs duties, after an official document sowed disorder last week and propelled the precious metal to a record”.
“Gold will not be subject to customs duties!” Wrote the head of state on his Truth Social platform.
According to an update of American customs, detailed in a document dated July 31, but made public on Friday, the golden ingots of one kilogram and those of 100 ounces were classified as subject to customs duties, while the investors thought they were exempt. The course of gold had then reached a new record.
According to AFP, the White House said it planned to “publish a decree in the near future to clarify the erroneous information concerning the taxation of gold bars and other specialized products”.
Recall that the taxation or not of gold for Switzerland is a big issue. Between June 2024 and June 2025, Switzerland exported for $ 61.5 billion in gold to the United States. This massive export is explained by the possible application of American customs duties on Swiss gold. Which will not be the case ultimately.
