The public prosecutor of the Confederation can open investigations for espionage affecting the Confederation Intelligence Service (SRC). In question, the possible transmission of sensitive information from the Cyber ​​division to Russia.
The Federal Council approved an authorization request to this effect. It was filed due to a possible violation of the secrecy of function, any acts prohibited for a foreign state and an alleged political intelligence service, confirmed the MPC on German radio. These last two crimes can be punished with a private sentence of freedom of up to three years.
The MPC’s request was submitted to the Federal Council by the Federal Department of Justice and Police, he confirmed. The Federal Council has given itself more than six months to make its decision, according to the SRF report. At the same time, criminal authorities have already taken conservatory measures in terms of evidence last year. The SRC is available to the MPC without restriction.
Many previous suspicions
Five years ago, two Western secret services had sounded the alarm to the SRC. It was about illegal transmission of data by the SRC to Russian secret services, including the military intelligence service GRU, via the Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky. Friends secret services have warned the Swiss intelligence service.
Kaspersky has already been suspected several times to collaborate with the Kremlin and its secret services. Many countries have been avoiding for years at the level of the State the company with which the SRC has collaborated.
The SRC supervisory authority was aware of it and filed a criminal complaint with the MPC, especially for suspicion of spying. Considering that there was a beginning of suspicion, she submitted the case to the Federal Council. (JZS/ATS)
