Michael and Kerry Ives were also found guilty of cruelty to a child.
The court learned that Ethan suffered from dangerous dehydration and severe weight insufficiency, with 40 bruises or visible marks, when he collapsed, victim of a serious head injury, at the home of his grandparents, on the evening of August 14, 2021.
Shannon Ives stayed with his son with his parents in Garden City when the court learned that he had been “victim of mistreatment and subject to occasional cruelty acts”.
A member of the northern police of Wales said that the trio occupied positions of authority and should have testified love, attention and protection to little Ethan. “Instead, Michael (the grandfather) caused distress, pain and misery to his grandson before brutally causing his death,” he said.
At the announcement of the verdict, Shannon and Kerry Ives looked straight ahead, while Michael Ives put his head on his left hand, with his gaze fixed in front of him, according to what the BBC reports.
Addressing Michael and Kerry Ives, judge Griffiths said that there was only one sentence for murder: life imprisonment.
The three of them will receive them awarded them on October 3.
