Haas F1 did not score points at the Belgian Grand Prix, this Sunday in Spa-Francorchamps, the day after a sprint where Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman had finished fifth and seventh, Saturday afternoon.
In the race, things went wrong despite a promising departure in sixth line, and the team leaves with a virgin score, while Williams, Racing Bulls, Sauber and Alpine marked.
“The racing day was frustrating, especially with Ollie, because we should have scored points. He had a sustained pace thanks to his level of support, he was very satisfied with the car and he was very confident” said Komatsu.
“We knew however that with these settings and in traffic, it was impossible to overcome, which unfortunately happened. In addition, we had a problem with the engine, which prevented us from optimizing its result. Given its starting position, we could have scored points.”
Ocon had already said after the race he had received worn tires while new was available, posing an obvious problem, in addition to too late: “On the Esteban side, we had an operational error on its tires and the timing of the stand at the stand was not good.”
“The speed is there, I think we may have the fifth fastest car-which is great and hat to the team-but we just failed to do things well.”
The Japanese is convinced that his team has the potential to score points if everything is going well: “We still have a race before the summer break, so we have to focus on the fundamentals, and if we manage perfectly, I am sincerely convinced that we can score points with the two cars.”
