The atmosphere was special before the Vaud East district court this Monday morning, for an audience perceived by many as the epilogue of a case that shakes the world of theateral Vaud improvisation for several years. He moved into number in the public, in support of the complainants, and in front of the door, letters traced in chalk indicate that “shame has changed camps”, tell the victims that “we believe”, call to put “fire to patriarchy and culture of rape”.
The facts go back for some to fifteen years, and some are prescribed. The eight complainants say they have gradually realized, speaking of each other, of the extent of the problem they testify this Monday. Denial, guilt, isolation stand out from their stories. At the center of eyes, we find José*, a professional improviser now unemployed. He is accused of rape and years of repeated sexual abuse on girls and boys of which he was the eldest, even the coach. A group which he describes as “his circle of friends”, while they and they depict him as the object of great admiration, having connections and a powerful role in the world of improvisation, deciding on the basis of his friendships which was selected for matches or shows.
