He had been photographed naked in his yard by Google Street View, an Argentinian will be compensated

A “nude” that will cost Google a little expensive. An Argentinian will be compensated by the Internet giant after being photographed by his completely naked mapping service in his courtyard, in 2017. If his face was not visible on the Street View cliché, taken while it was back, the complainant’s home had been easy to identify in the city of Bragado, 210 km from Buenos Aires.

The man, a police officer by training, explains in his complaint that he was the subject of taunting of neighbors and colleagues and feeling humiliated after the broadcast of this photo in a local television news and on social networks. The National Civil Call Chamber of Buenos Aires condemned Google Argentina and Google Inc. to pay it 16 million pesos, or nearly 11,000 euros, to repair this attack on dignity.

Too low wall

To defend itself, Google had first invoked a wall of the house too low, then deplored that the complainant had not “preserved his intimacy”. An argument taken up by the judge at first instance last year, who also considered that the man was responsible for the situation since “was walking in inappropriate conditions in the garden of his house”.

Finally, justice agreed to the complainant, believing that the wall, two meters high, was sufficiently high and that the company had shown intrusion into the complainant’s private sphere “undermining his dignity”.
