In Nantucket, in the Massachusetts (United States), a woman accuses her neighbor of having crossed the limits of her property to bring down a grove of fifties trees. Character objective: to clear the view from his adjoining house, which he then put up for sale for $ 10 million, reports the NanTucket Current site.
The facts would have taken place on February 22, according to the complainant, Patricia Belford. According to her, her neighbor, Jonathan Jacoby, would have crossed his alley to go to his field and have shot there, without authorization, more than 16 mature trees.
An overwhelming testimony
These trees, planted by the Belford family in the 1970s, had been maintained for almost five decades. “Their slaughter not only infringed our property rights, but it has also permanently altered the character, the value and intimacy of our house,” said the complainant, quoted by Nantucket Current. Difficult, according to her, to believe in an error: the cut would have been made several meters from the limit separating the two properties.
In addition, a testimony came to support its version. The former landscaper of Jonathan Jacoby spontaneously delivered to the police a statement in which he affirms that the man confessed to him. He would even have asked him to help him clean the place.
More than $ 486,000 in damage
Since then, Jacoby has put his house for sale. The property is described in the announcement as “fitted out and located so as to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean, Hummock Pond and the 330 hectares of protected land between Hummock Pond and Madaket”.
Local police have confirmed that they have opened an investigation. According to the complaint, “the cost of replacing the slaughtered trees alone exceeds $ 486,000”.
