Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Abitibi-Témiscamingue. The region will be affected by high temperatures and humidity for the coming days.
The weather forecast indeed reports a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius for Friday, with a humidx at 35. And it should be even warmer during the weekend, with a mercury oscillating between 30 and 33 degrees, and a wet factor of 40 in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
The criteria we look at to issue heat warnings are when the maximum temperatures planned will reach or exceed 30 degrees Celsius, for two consecutive days. This is what we plan for the weekend for the regions of Matagami and Abitibi-Témiscamingue, from [samedi] until Monday
explains Alexandra Cournoyer, meteorologist at Environment Canada.

During this period, residents of the region were invited to take measures to protect themselves from the effects of heat on their health.
The population is invited to stay away from the sun’s rays as much as possible if you are outside. Stay in a place in the shade. But the best, really, if you can be inside, if you are lucky to have an air -conditioned place, or otherwise a well -ventilated place. And of course you have to hydrate
recalled Ms. Cournoyer, on the program Gold mornings.
Friday morning, the Abitibi-Ouest SPCA also informed the population that it no longer had a air conditioner due to a breakage. The organization invites people to lend him fans to try to protect animals from heat.
A triathlon that thinks of everything
Some events will also have to negotiate with this heat announced for the weekend. This is the case of the Aiguebelle triathlon, whose activities take place on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Aiguebelle Park.

Fortunately, we have Sylvie Vicaire who is official Triathlon Quebec and who is with us tomorrow to make sure to make the right decisions with temperature. Basically, she will be in communication with Triathlon Quebec and with a medical team also to ensure that she is taking measures if necessary. If it is really too hot, maybe reduce distances
explains Valérie Marquis, member of the organizing committee and the Triosisko club.
We want a security event, so the measures are already under discussion and are already thought of in advance.
The organization will also have water tables and will provide lemonade to participants, she told the microphone of the show Gold mornings.
The Aiguebelle triathlon again offers different events adapted to all levels of training for participants. It is an event that is both competitive and family. We even planned an initiation component to this event which brings together the disciplines of running, swimming and cycling.
We have two information sessions, where we go around with them regulations, the competition site, we explain the transition area, how it works. Simply answer questions. We have our official triathlon which is there to answer a little more technical questions. But in substance, it is to bring the experience to life without the competitive component
specifies Valérie Marquis.
For these participants, the distances to be covered are half reduced, from 350 meters to swim, 10 kilometers by bicycle and 12.5 kilometers in running.
Duathlon, which combines the race and cycling as well as the Aquathlon, for swimming and the race, are also on the program.
