Heat wave: the precautions to be taken concerning the batteries of your devices: News

The lithium batteries of your smartphone, computer or electric scooter are very sensitive to hot weather. In this heat wave that strikes France, several practices are to be avoided, reports BFMTV, Monday, June 30.

At the end of June, Mercury panics in France and should continue to climb in the coming days. Indeed, 16 departments were placed on a red heat wave alert by Météo-France and 68 others were kept in orange vigilance for the day on Tuesday July 1. Faced with these strong heat, human organisms suffer, but they are not the only ones. As our BFMTV colleagues indicate, the batteries of our devices are also very sensitive to high temperatures.

Whether for your smartphone, computer, electric scooter or bicycle, lithium batteries must be subject to special attention during heat waves. “Avoid using or recharging your device when the temperature of your environment is greater than 35 degrees, as this can permanently reduce the battery life,” warns the American giant Apple for its iPhones. This precaution also applies to Android mobile phones.

Fire risks

If you cannot wait for the mercury to drop to recharge your device, it is advisable to reduce the charging time as much as possible and not to leave it connected to 100 %. You can also activate the “energy saving” mode on your smartphone or computer so as not to request it too much.

Finally, it is best to use the original charger and cable of your device. Some chargers, at lower prices, can have harmful effects on your smartphone or other, or even trigger fires. To limit the risks, it is better not to load your device overnight or when you are not on site.
