A hiker, attacked by a brown bear on Thursday, was found dead on Friday August 15 in northern Japan, local officials said.
The man, in his twenties, was attacked while walking on a path of Mount Rausuon the northern island of HokkaidoThursday morning, a spokesman for the local police at AFP said. Before discovering the body, the authorities had first found a portfolio, containing identity documents, a watch, a bloody shirt, a hat as well as traces of blood on trees and the ground, said the Kyodo news agency, citing the police.
In this same sector, Hunters have captured and killed a bear near the pathan employee of the city of Shari told AFP where the attack took place. A DNA analysis must be carried out to determine whether it is the animal guilty of the deadly attack.
The number of brown bear on the island of Hokkaido decreased in 2023 for the first time since 1991, according to the latest estimates published in August. There were about 11,600 at the end of 2023, 500 less than the previous year.
