Here are the 5 vehicles with the worst residual value, according to a recent study

When shopping for a new vehicle, it is wise to take into account an often overlooked factor: depreciation. This element will mainly interest those who keep their car for a short period. A recent study carried out in the United States highlighted the five models displaying the Worse residual value after three years.

The worst values in the United States

The study, carried out by the Edmunds site, reveals five vehicles with one of the worst values after three years. It is an American online resource for the inventory of sales vehicles as well as a source of information on the automotive world. To establish its ranking, Edmunds compared the sale price of different new models with their average value on the second -hand market three years later. Here are the conclusions that have been drawn from it for the United States market.

5e Postion: to ev6

This may seem surprising, but with a loss of value of approximately 52 % over a period of 3 years, the Kia Ev6 does not seem to have a very good residual value in our southern neighbors. However, it is not mentioned if one version was more affected than another in this study.

4e Position: BMW Série 7

Sold at more than $ 120,000 three years ago, the large luxury BMW sedan underwent a depreciation of approximately 53 %. High -end vehicles are often affected by this phenomenon, and the 7 series does not escape it.

3e position : Nissan LEAF

Nissan’s little affordable electric car is not very successful in the United States in the second-hand market with a loss of around 53 % of its value after only 3 years.

2e position : Audi e-tron

The Audi E-tron is the first foray for the German manufacturer in the world of the VEs. It was not a huge success and it seems to be transposed on the value of the vehicle on occasion. According to the study, Audi’s electric SUV has lost around 57 % of its value in the first 3 years of possession.

1re position : Mercedes-Benz EQS

The vehicle that would have the worst resale value on the market, after only 3 years, would be the Mercedes-Benz EQS. By comparing the sale price of the electric car in new condition and the average of the sale price on occasion, they found a loss of value of 60 %, after 3 years. This is what to give heart to those who acquired one and who did not think of keeping it for many years.

And in Canada, even bell sound?

Canadian consumers are doing a little better. By applying the same analysis to these five models, the average value loss is between 40 % and 45 % after three years, clearly below the 50 % threshold observed in the United States.

It should also be remembered that three years ago, the Kia Ev6 and Nissan Leaf were eligible for subsidies that could reach $ 12,000, which helps to mitigate the depreciation calculated in the pockets of consumers.
