The heat return will be this first week of August. It is from the middle of the week that temperatures will start upwards. “We have a hottie of hot weather that is set up,” as the meteorologist Yann Amice explains actu.fr.
It is Wednesday August 6, 2025 Wednesday which will mark the return of high temperatures to a large southern part of the country. “Wednesday, it goes well and Thursday, still a notch,” he said about temperatures.
Where will he do the hottest?
According to MĂ©tĂ©o France, between these Wednesdays, August 6 and Thursday, August 7, 2025, “the maximum temperatures will become raised over a large southern half of the country”. But where will they be the highest?
Wednesday August 6temperatures should rise, between 27 and 29 ° C in Provence-Alpes-CĂ´te d’Azur, between 27 and 30 ° C in Auvergne-RhĂ´ne-Alpes and in New Aquitaine (notably in Bordeaux), and between 29 and 32 ° C in Occitanie (where it should be hot in Toulouse and Montpellier).
Map made using the UKMO model, from the weather site. The red the card, the higher the temperature could be.
For the day of Thursday August 7in the south of France, it could be between 34 and 36 ° C on Aquitaine, the Midi-Pyrénées, and locally the lot and the Gers. In Île-de-France, the temperature should climb around 30 ° C. Regarding the coastal areas (Brittany, Manche), they will be more temperate with 20 to 26 ° C expected.
Friday August 8temperatures will further climb a notch. They will go up to 36 to 38 ° C, in Aquitaine, in Poitou, but also in the Provence-Alpes CĂ´tes d’Azur region and punctually in the Lyon region. Further north, they should go between 24 and 26 ° C, due to a “cloud limit”.
“A frank but in short peak”
How to explain this increase in temperatures? It is linked to an anticyclonic phase, which will arrive on Wednesday, causing heat from the Iberian peninsula (Portugal, Spain), especially on the south.
According to scientific definitions, however, we will not be able to speak of heat wave or heat wave.
It is a frank peak, but in short. Night temperatures will not be permanently high (no maintenance above 22/23 ° C at night).
It will be a “hot episode, but there is no scorching phase, for the moment,” adds the expert.
However, the days on Thursday and Friday promising to be very hot, Météo France could even trigger heat wave on certain departments.
Thunderstorms expected at the end of the week
From Friday August 8, the weather could change due to dry and summer thunderstorms which could affect a large part of the country, especially south of the Massif Central.
This will lead to “relative cooling without a sudden change of diet,” according to Yann Amice.
As of Saturday, August 9, dry and sunny weather should come back to the whole country. This could last until August 15, before the arrival of a possible new disturbance.
