The similarities are striking: a four -star hotel, nestled in the great outdoors, with a training ground accessible on foot. For the choice of its base camp, the Swiss Football Association (ASF) seems to have been inspired by the male Euro in Germany. And for good reason: on the way to the quarter -finals, the coach Murat Yakin and his players had repeatedly stressed the importance of the environment, the atmosphere and the exclusivity of the Waldhotel, privatized for Xhaka and his teammates.
This year, the same device is set up for the women’s team: the Seepark Hotel in Thoune will close its doors to customers this weekend-and, hopefully, for as long as possible. As a preventive measure, the Swiss Federation has reserved this wellness hotel, located on the edge of the lake, until the final week. One night in a double room costs an average of 373 francs in this establishment.

According to a study by the travel site HolidaycheckSwitzerland occupies 11ᵉ place on sixteen teams in terms of price of hotel rooms. This classification is based on an estimate of the prices for 17 double rooms reserved by each delegation.
For the Swiss team, this represents a budget of around 6,300 francs per night. In reality, the number of rooms required – for the 23 players, the technical staff and the accompanying people – is probably higher. Same thing for costs.

England opts for The Great Luxury
However, these prices remain far lower than that will spend England for its stay in Switzerland. The English Federation could indeed pay 34,500 francs per night to house its players and the staff of the Sarina Wiegman Star Sukendryman. It is not surprising: the team has taken up residence at the prestigious Dolder Grand on the heights of Zurich, one of the most expensive and exclusive hotels in the country. Rihanna, Sophia Loren, John Wayne, Nelson Mandela: The list of celebrities who stayed here is as long as it is elegant.
Determined to keep their title, the English are on total comfort and leave nothing to chance. According to the federation, no less than 23 establishments were visited in Switzerland during the past yearbefore selecting this high standing address.

The selector Wiegman thus sums up this strategy: “Finding the ideal environment to prepare, train, but also rest and recover, is an essential element in a tournament. In 2022 and 2023, our rear base played a central role in our success. We have all confidence in this new base camp which, in our view, will perfectly meet all of our needs ”.
Swedes appear modest
The chances of seeing England reaching the final are high. Which would have a cost: Staying at Dolder Grand until the end of the tournament would represent an expense of approximately a million francsor a fifth of the UEFA bonus granted in the event of a title.
Conversely, we find Sweden. Compared to the English, the Scandinavians would almost pass for “poor”. Their accommodation is not even a hotel, but the OYM performance center (On Your Marks), opened in 2020 in Cham (ZG). A modern place, but with minimalist comfort. The overnight stay in a double room costs only 200 francs, ten times less than at the Dolder Grand.

Iceland and England draw their game pin
The cost is not, however, the only criterion analyzed by Holidaycheck: The displacement load between the stages visited and the hotel was also evaluated. The meetings will take place in Basel, Bern, Geneva, Zurich, Saint-Gall, Lucerne, Thoune and Sion. The less the distance between the enclosure and the base camp is greater, the faster the recovery can start.
In this sense, the Icelanders, future opponents of Switzerland, will have the least road to go: their hotel, the Parkhotel Gnten near Bern, only forces them for 130 kilometers round trip for group matches. With a price of 306 francs per room and per night, Iceland displays the best compromise between accommodation cost and travel constraints. The Englishmen will also benefit from reasonable journeys: 190 kilometers in total. But they pay this comfort at the high price.
The female nati will have to rally from Thoune the stadiums of Basel, Bern and Geneva, a total of 750 kilometers. It is the third highest trip of the tournament, behind the Netherlands (910 km) and Italy (1,220 km). Housed at the Hertenstein campus in Weggis (LU), transalpines will not only have to travel far, but they will also bear the sixth highest hotel costs.
