The local campaign “AIDS Holidays“, Initiated by the Directorate General for AIDS Prevention (DGPS), ended on August 14 at Setrag station in the commune of Owendo, after three days of intense activities. Led from August 12 to 14 in Igoumié, in the IAI district and at the train station, the operation had the ambition to raise awareness of populations, in particular young people during holidays, and to propose voluntary screening of HIV.

The bet seems successful: 1,051 people were screened on all sites, a record for a first in these neighborhoods hitherto on the fringes of public health campaigns. “”We chose Igoumié, Iai and the Setrag station because these are areas where no similar action had been carried out. To innovate, we wanted to go to these populations“I explained a head of the DGPS.
In detail, 227 people were tested in Igoumié, including two positive cases: a 34 -year -old man and a 24 -year -old woman. In the IAI district, 437 screenings were made, revealing six HIV positive and an indefinite case. People affected are three men aged 25 to 45, and five women aged 25 to 50. Finally, at Setrag station, 387 people accepted the test, with five positive results, including four women aged 24 to 45 and a 43 -year -old man.
In addition to screening, the other essential component of the campaign resided in mass and proximity awareness, carried out through direct exchanges and educational talks. Each day, the objective set was to receive at least 500 people and to detect 200 volunteers. “”Given the figures, our expectations have been largely achieved“, Haded the coordination team by the voice of Aimé Brice Ngoulou.
